  “How would you know that?”

“I can smell the difference in your body.” His smirk made me sort of furious in the moment.

  “That’s creepy as hell, Dre.”

He shrugged then. “It’s the truth though. I promised you I wouldn’t lie to you about anything going on with us, remember?”

“Yeah, I remember. It’s just really weird that you can smell which part of my cycle I’m in.”

“You were ovulating, and then on your period while you were recovering from your injuries. You’re in the clear this week, but if you don’t want to start our family yet, we might want to think about what we’re going to do next week.” I just sighed at his words.

“Let’s figure that out later, okay? Right now, I just want to get to Vukodlak. Liz will be leaving in a couple days to get back before the semester starts, and I’m going to miss her like crazy. I want to spend as much time with her as I can before she goes.”

“I know you do, babe. Finish getting ready. I’ll be waiting in the other room so I don’t distract you again.”

Just a little under an hour later Dre and I finally made our way to the brewery in time to see Garrett and my sister eye-fucking each other pretty blatantly. “I hate seeing that,” Dre admitted.

“Me too. I still say this Kindred bit is messed up.” When he growled unhappily I turned and placed my hand flat against his chest to comfort him. “Not in our case, obviously.” I spun again, and pointed at my sister. “Look at them though. They’re both miserable. It’s not fair that they can’t be with one another.”

“They can,” he starts, but at my disapproving look he gives in. “Yeah, I know. It complicates things in case either of their Kindred shows up.” I nod, and continue forward as Dre walks off in the direction of the bar to snag us some drinks. As I approached I could hear Garrett talking about hearts and sweaty bodies.

  “Garrett!” Liz yelped out.

“Stop propositioning my sister, you man whore!” I called out to him.

“Iz, you’re even later than I thought you would be!” My sister scolded on a puff of frustrated air.

“Sorry, it wasn’t my fault, I swear. Dre had to, um, talk to me about something.” I could feel a blush creeping into my cheeks and no doubt the tips of my ears too.

We sat around, the four of us, chatting for a bit before my bladder decided I needed a trip to the ladies room. I finished my business and headed back out to the bathroom in time to be present for my sister’s downfall. She was finally meeting her match, and I couldn’t be happier. Well, I could have been happier if her match had been Garrett, but the truth of the matter just happened to be a close second, and I could definitely live with that.

Life was finally a dream come true for me. I had found the man I’d been pining over for three years without knowing why. I’d developed my own sense of self without my sister needing to be my crutch, found my spirit animal – which made me chuckle, because that was a literal thing not figurative – and I had a new job too. That’s right, I was now putting my finance degree to work for the brewery as well as a few smaller businesses that various pack members owned. All things were coming up roses, and now I knew for sure I wouldn’t have to do it without my twin! Everything that was new in my life was starting to fit into a little box I like to label, ‘perfect’.

  What to Read Next

  Enraged (Vukodlak Brew #2)

Liz gets the shock of her life when an emergency family meeting pulls her away from college and into the mountain town where her parents met years ago. When she gets there, she is tossed into a world she never knew existed, and worse yet, she feels a tug on her insides that lead her to Gage Davis. The same Gage Davis that has been sexing up her aunt since Lana lost Dre to Liz’s twin sister, Izzy.

While Liz may understand all about mated pairs now, Gage definitely doesn’t understand the fact that she has to go back to college. She has one more year to finish her degree, and school is eight hours away.

Gage makes a deal to ensure he and his mate don’t end up missing out on a year’s worth of time together. The only problem is he won’t have his pack to back him up while he follows Liz back to school. He’s really going to need the pack when he finds out how many guys at the school are going to enrage him, and set his inner wolf on a collision course with disaster. There’s one in particular who claims Liz can be his mate too, and Gage suddenly realizes that Kindred pairings aren’t as simple as his pack-mates have been lead to believe.

If they can’t make it through this one year, and Liz’s past, they might just be one of those rare few mated pairs that don’t work out. Coming, Feb. 21, 2017.

  Engineered (Vukdolak Brew #3)

Garrett is called out to help his cousin control his temper while he’s away at college with his Kindred Mate. Unfortunately, for all of them, Garret never makes it. Instead, his Chevy truck - his pride and joy - is crushed in a freak accident with an 18-wheeler. It was an accident he shouldn’t have walked away from, but he’s a werewolf who heals inhumanly fast, and being able to bail from the wreckage before it blew his poor truck to kingdom come was just a blessing.

Sarah Matthews, who happened to come upon the accident just a few minutes after it happened, was trying to run away from the Morris Wolf Pack that was holding her captive. She was to be part of a breeding program to create potential mates. She wasn’t a mate-match for any of the pack members, and now that she’d come of age, she was to be used to create more potential mates.

Sarah and Garrett set out to save each other even as both packs search for them. One pack heads out to save them, the other to destroy them. Oh, yeah, and that Kindred Mate thing that she had thought was a load of crap is apparently real, because Sarah feels it in a big way with Garrett. She knows he feels it too, even though he’s fighting it for some reason. Coming March 14, 2017.

Each book I write takes time. Sometimes, that time comes in the form of things I’m doing when I’m not writing (like being a single mom). Other times it comes in the form of writing books I’m not supposed to be writing. ;)

This was one of those books (series). It struck me while I was in the middle of SEVERAL other projects, and forced me to put them on hold longer. With that said, my biggest acknowledgment goes out to my readers for their tremendous patience when my work load goes astray, or when my muse decides she wants me on another path. Writing, much like any other creative endeavor, sometimes has a mind of its own. Unlike a menial job, our careers rely on our imaginations, and those things can be truly unruly bastards!

Thank you to my readers, period. You guys are fantastic, and my kids thank you too. After all, this is my job, and they couldn’t get those new shoes without you. ;)

Seriously, thank you! Thank you for buying, reading, and reviewing the books. I hope you enjoy them, and even when you don’t, I learn a thing or two from reviews, so keep ‘em coming. Good or bad.

As always, my family makes their way to this space, because without them… well, I’d probably write a lot more! lol But then my life would be a whole lot less entertaining!

Thanks to my parental units who have always support
ed and encouraged me! You guys are simply amazing! Extra special thanks to my dad, who brewed me some amazing crack – I mean mocha Kona coffee blend yumminess that kept me fueled. #Addicted

  About the Author

Christine M. Butler writes books from her fabulous home tucked away in the middle of a temperate rain forest in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina. That means she sees a lot of rainy days to help her focus, but when the sun comes out she’s usually playing in the woods, a creek, river, or lake.

She spends her free time with family, JoJo (her dog), and Simi (her cat who behaves more like a dog than the dog does).
